Iranian freestyle wrestlers earn 17 medals in Veteran World Championships

The Veteran World Championships kicked off at the Sports Hall Kolodrum in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on October 10, and will wrap up on October 15, 2017.

Iranian freestyle wrestlers have exhibited awe-inspiring displays of grappling skills and athletic talents at the Veteran World Championships, and earned 17 medals, nine of which are gold ones, during the international sports event.

On Saturday, Hamidreza Rabiei, Mohammad Kazem Narimani, Qasem Johari, Hassan Ja’farian, Khosro Zarei and Ahmad Roudbari snatched a gold medal each for Iran in the final bouts of the 70-kilogram, 78-kilogram, 88-kilogram and 100-kilogram weight categories respectively.

Mansour Khatibi and Ardeshir Pourhekmat picked up two silver medals in the 130-kilogram classes.

Mohammad Reza Ja’farlou and Alireza Ja’farinejad earned two bronzes in the 62-kilogram and 70-kilogram weight sections.

The achievements came a day after Seyyed Saeed Sayyadmanesh, Mohammad Zarrinkamar and Mehdi Shafian were awarded three gold medals in the 78-kilogram, 88-kilogram and 130-kilogram sections.

Reza Akbarpour and Sohrab Rahmatabadi also bagged two silver medals in the 70-kilogram and 100-kilogram divisions.

Additionally, Mohsen Aliabadi and Akbar Afrashteh finished third in the 88-kilogram and 130-kilogram sections to settle for a bronze medal each.
