Iranian freestyle wrestlers have presented praiseworthy displays of gripping skills and muscular strength at the 12th edition of the World University Wrestling Championship in Turkey, and claimed four medals, including three golds.
On Tuesday, Iran’s Younes Sarmasti downed his Turkish rival Ahmet Peker by technical fall in the final bout of the freestyle 57-kilogram category of the contests in the landlocked northern Turkish city of Corum, and received the gold medal.
In the freestyle 77-kilogram class, Reza Afzali overwhelmed representatives from Kazakhstan, Finland and the host nation in his march to the ultimate encounter.
He outmuscled a contender from Poland, and scooped another gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Amir Mohammadi also prevailed over Guram Chertkoev of Russia in the freestyle 97-kilogram section to snatch the third gold for Iran.
Additionally, Maysam Heidari defeated an opponent from Hungary in the freestyle repechage challenge of 65-kilogram weight division, and claimed the bronze medal.
The 12th edition of the World University Wrestling Championship started in Corum, Turkey, on October 25, and will finish on October 30, 2016.
The tournament has brought together dozens of young wrestlers from Belarus, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Turkey, who are vying for available medals.
