Iranian gymnast Reza Farnia has finished his campaign at the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Turkey and pocketed a bronze medal at the international event.

On Sunday, Farnia took part in the men’s still rings event at Mersin Gymnastics Hall in the southern Turkish city of Mersin, and claimed the third position as the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sole representative during the competitions.

Turkey’s Ibrahim Çolak earned the highest mark of the qualification round and won the gold medal, while Colombian gymnast Jossimar Calvo ranked second and received the silver.

The FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup started in Mersin, Turkey, on July 1, and finished on July 3, 2016.

The tournament brought together dozens of male and female gymnasts from Austria, Azerbaijan, Colombia, Hong Kong, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Farnia had attended the event alongside his coach Maysam Amouzad Mahdiyarji. Iran’s Seyed Hamidreza Hashemi was also in attendance as an international judge and officiated some of the contests.

In the men’s still rings events, rings are suspended on wire cable from a point 5.75 meters from the floor.

The gymnasts must perform a demonstration of balance, strength, power, and dynamic motion while preventing the rings from swinging. At least one static strength move is required, but some gymnasts may conduct two or three.
