The aerobics trio of Iranian men’s national junior gymnastics team has ranked third in the fifth edition of the Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Vietnam.
On Sunday, the Iranian trio comprising Sahand Safizadeh, Alireza Nabipour and Amir Hossein Bani-Asad shared the bronze podium at the Nguyen Du Sports Center in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City with representatives from South Korea.
Aerobics gymnasts from the host nation claimed the continental title and finished as the vice champions.
Iranian men’s national junior gymnastics team includes Amin Arbab, Alireza Nabipour, Saeed Maleki, Sahand Safizadeh, Sajjad Shamsi, Amir Hossein Bani-Asad, Mahmoud Zoghi, Sajjad Rafiei, Behnam Devisti, Erfan Nourani as well as Ali Khalili. The Iranian outfit is under the tutelage of Mohammad Mehrtaash as coach.
The fifth edition of the Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships started in Ho Chi Minh City, on December 9 and concludes on December 14. The sporting event brought together 242 athletes from 10 Asian countries, including Australia, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Mongolia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Gymnasts were divided into three age groups of 12-14, 15-17 and over 18 (senior). They vied in individual man, individual woman, mixed pairs, trios and five-member team events.
The Iranian contingent took part in the 15-17 and over 18 (senior) age groups of the championships.
