US Vice President Joe Biden says Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will endorse his party’s presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
"I've talked to Bernie. Bernie is going to endorse her," Biden reportedly told NPR's "Weekend Edition" on Thursday.
However, Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs would not confirm or deny Biden’s claim.
“We are in the process of talking” with the Clinton campaign, he said, adding that the two candidates held a meeting in early June to talk about next steps.
Sanders had said that he would not endorse Clinton for president until they meet and he could measure her commitment to combating wealth inequality, and other issues that powered his presidential campaign.
Sanders said defeating presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is his first priority. He was to meet on Sunday with supporters and senior advisers at his home in Burlington, Vermont.
Sanders’ emphasis on US income inequality and the influence of corporate money on elections and the government helped him attract million of voters to his campaign trail.
Last week, Sanders expressed willingness to vote for Clinton in November.
Sanders made the remarks during an interview with CNN on Friday when asked whether he would vote for Clinton, he said, “In all likelihood, it will be Hillary Clinton.”
He refused to say whether the time will come when he will fully endorse the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, saying he is waiting to see what she says about his priorities.
"I think the system has many, many flaws, but we knew what we were getting into," Sanders said, referring to his doubts about Clinton’s fair winning of nomination. "I'm not saying that they changed the rules. No, they didn't."
