Wounded Gaza hospital chief calls for help amid Israel’s ‘extermination campaign’

The head of a Gaza hospital, which is surrounded and attacked by the Israeli military, has called on the international community to put an end to the regime’s ongoing “campaign of extermination” in the northern part of the Palestinian territory.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, appealed for help in a statement released on Monday, a day after he was injured in an Israeli airstrike on the medical facility.

“On behalf of myself and the staff of this healthcare system, we demand action from the world. We call upon the World Health Organization, international institutions, and the humanitarian community” to urgently intervene and provide protection for medical centers and workers, he said.

Abu Safia also noted that it has become dangerous to work inside Kamal Adwan Hospital, which has been under a 50-day siege and bombed directly every day in the past week.

The targeting of the hospital, he added, clearly indicates Israel’s intention to hinder the ability of Palestinian medical staff to provide humanitarian services.

“We continue to suffer and die while the world remains silent, failing to halt the relentless bloodshed in the northern Gaza Strip. Each day, we witness the horrific suffering and bloody scenes in Kamal Adwan hospital,” he emphasized.

Abu Safia further said that many of the Gaza homes targeted by the Israeli military have become “graves for their inhabitants” as there are no tools to rescue those trapped under the rubble.

“This is the reality we face: a genuine campaign of extermination, targeting everything in the northern Gaza Strip, including our healthcare system,” he pointed out.

“We are targeted every day—whether by bombs, shelling, quadcopters, or Apache helicopters.”

Israel launched a genocidal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

So far, the occupying regime has killed at least 44,211 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 104,567 others, in Gaza.

Last month, Israel intensified its attacks in the northern Gaza Strip, cut the area off from the rest of the territory, and blocked nearly all food aid from entering the region.

It is also preventing the return of Palestinians, who were forcibly displaced from their homes in northern Gaza.
