A Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli forces after he allegedly carried out an attack on settlers north of the occupied territories.
A spokesperson for the Israeli police claimed Thursday that regime forces killed the Palestinian man after he stabbed two Israelis in a marketplace in the occupied city of Netanya.
Local media said the man was a 23-year-old from the city of Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank. Initial reports had suggested that the man had died of his injuries.
Other reports said the two Israeli settlers, a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, sustained injuries in their upper body after being stabbed by the Palestinian man. An Israeli newspaper said one of the injured were in critical condition.
The death of the Palestinian comes weeks after four people were killed and six others injured in a shooting attack in a shopping center in Tel Aviv. One of the two Palestinians who allegedly launched the attack were killed by the Israeli forces.
More than 220 Palestinians have been killed since October, 2015, when Israelis began a crackdown on the Palestinians in the West Bank and in the occupied Quds (Jerusalem). In August that year, Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Palestinians, heightening concerns about Israeli plans to change the status quo of al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Quds (Jerusalem). Palestinians are also angry at increasing violence by Israeli settlers at the mosque and their attacks on Palestinian property.
More than two dozen Israelis along with several foreigners have also been killed in the violence.
Israelis also killed a Palestinian teenager earlier on Thursday, claiming that he stabbed a 13-year-old resident of an illegal Israeli settlement. The teenage girl later succumbed to her injuries while another settler was wounded.
International rights groups have for long criticized Israel for its policy of shoot-to-kill, which they say have led to numerous deaths on the recent violence. They say many of those killed by Israeli troops at the scene of attacks did not pose serious threats.
