Iran Paralympic athlete bags bronze in World Deaf Athletics Championships

Iranian Paralympian athlete Sajjad Pirayqorchaman has claimed the third spot at the third edition of World Deaf Athletics Championships in Bulgaria, and scooped a bronze medal.

On Wednesday, the Iranian athlete vied for the top honor in the men’s discus throw contests at the Beroe Stadium in the southern Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora, and managed to pocket the bronze with a throw of 53.35 meters.

A contestant from Russia threw 56.20 meters to receive the gold medal. A Ukranian sportsman finished runner-up in this category with a throw of 54.26 meters and snatched the silver.

The third edition of World Deaf Athletics Championships began in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, on June 25, and will run through July 3, 2016.

Male and female hearing-impaired athletes were in action for marathon competitions at the Municipality of Stara Zagora on June 26.

The women’s 100-meter hurdles, men’s 400-meter qualification, women’s high jump, men’s 1500-meter semi-final, men’s 100-meter qualification, women’s shot put, women’s 10,000-meter final, women’s pole vault final, women’s 400-meter semi-final, men’s javelin throw final, women’s 200-meter and men’s 10,000-meter final heats were staged at Beroe Stadium on Monday.

Men’s and women’s hammer throw final, women’s long jump, women’s 100m semi-final, men’s 100-semifinal, men’s and women’s 1500-meter final, men’s pole vault final, women’s final 400-meter, women’s javelin throw, men’s 400-meter, men’s triple jump, men’s and women’s 100-meter final and women’s 800-meter contests were also held at Beroe Stadium the following day.

On Wednesday, men’s discus throw final, men’s 3000-meter steeplechase final, women’s 800-meter semi-final, men’s long jump qualification, women’s high jump,  men’s and women’s 400-meter Hurdles final, women’s shot put final and men’s 200-meter qualification heats were staged at Beroe Stadium.

Iranian Paralympian Erfan Saffari will test his skills in men’s shot put final contests at Beroe Stadium on Friday.

The third edition of World Deaf Athletics Championships in Bulgaria started in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, on June 25, and will finish on July 3, 2016.
