Iran men’s national snooker team has demonstrated remarkable skills at the 4th Asian Team Event & 5th 6-Red Championship in the United Arab Emirates, claiming the top position at the end of the continental sporting event.
On Thursday, the Iranian pair of Amir Sarkhosh and Soheil Vahedi drew awe from many spectators at Novotel Al Bustan Hotel in Abu Dhabi as they prevailed over Indian opponents Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta 3-2 (53-65, 54-7, 77-1, 64-69, 74-40) to clinch the title clash.
Mehta started off well and used all his experience in the first frame against Sarkhosh, pulling out a 65-53 win.
In the second frame, Vahedi bundled up world’s 6-red cueist Advani 54-7.
The Iranian pair loomed large over the Indian snooker players in the third, and Vahedi single-handedly notched up a 77-1 victory.
The fourth frame saw a thrilling contest between Sarkhosh and Advani. The Iranian athlete was leading 64-51 when he missed an easy brown. His Indian rival then came from behind and stole the show.
Confident Vahedi showed no intention of submission ever since the referee blew on his whistle and signaled the start of the decider. Mehta missed a brown while trailing 40-69 and the Iranian cueist went onto to strike the final nail.
“It was an honor to play against Advani, the world champion. I had played him once last year in Malaysia and he had won on the last black,” Vahedi commented.
“We didn't play really well and didn't make the most of the chances we got,” Advani said, adding that Vahedi was fortunate to have got most of his long pots in.
“Some of the shots he tried we would never go for because the percentage of getting those shots right is very low. He was lucky,” he added.
The 4th Asian Team Event & 5th 6-Red Championship started in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, on May 18 and wrapped up on May 26, 2016.
