Iran’s cueist Mozayeni poised to advance to IBSF knockout stage

Young Iranian snooker player Siavash Mozayeni has sealed his fourth straight at the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Under-21 Championships 2015 in Romania, and is about to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.

The Iranian snooker prodigy downed his 18-year-old Irish opponent Shane Bates 4-1 in his fourth Group E clash at Caro Parc Hotel Bucharest in the Romanian capital city of Bucharest on Wednesday to get one step closer to the next round of the sporting event.

Mozayeni had earlier stunned Eduard Agapie, a representative from the host country, 4-0 in his opening contest on July 19.

The 20-year-old Iranian sportsman defeated Egypt’s Abdelrahman Shahin 4-2 in his second competition on Monday, before overcoming his Latvian opponent Vilius Schulte 4-0 in the third showdown the next day.

The 2015 IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship opened in Romania July 17, and will run until July 26.

In boys’ category, 104 players are placed in 16 groups and the top four cueists from each group will qualify for knockout stage of Last 64.

In girls’ category, there are 13 players divided into two groups, and again four players from each group will qualify for the quarter finals.

The knockout matches will start on July 23, and the finals for both categories will be staged on July 26.
