The national Iranian men's junior volleyball team have dominated Slovenia in a friendly match, which served as a warm-up prior to the 18th edition of Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship scheduled to be held in Chinese Taipei in July.
The Iranian squad stormed past the Slovenian junior contingent with a straight-set win, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22, in a fixture staged in the city of Maribor, northwest of the capital, Ljubljana, on Monday.
Iran’s head coach Behrouz Ataei initially fielded Ali Ramezani, Rasoul Aghcheli, Tayyib Eini, Tohid Samadi, Esmail Mosafer, Amir Hossein Esfandiyar and Esmail Talebi. Mirbabak Mousavi later joined the line-up.
Iran’s 18-year-old Aghcheli was named the top scorer of the match with 23 points.
The 18th edition of Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship will kick off in Koahsiung, Chinese Taipei, on July 9 and will wrap up on July 17, 2016.
Defending national Iranian men's junior volleyball team has been pitted against Qatar, a team from Central Zone and Hong Kong in Pool B of the continental tournament.
Host Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Myanmar are drawn in Pool A.
Pool C comprises China, Japan, India and a team from Western Zone, while South Korea, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and Australia are in Pool D.
