The national Iranian men’s volleyball team is expected to play six friendly matches within the next few months as a warm-up ahead of the Asian qualification tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On Tuesday evening, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF) Mohammad Reza Davarzani said the federation is mulling over a number of training camps abroad.
He said the sports camp for the Iranian outfit will start on March 25.
Davarzani added that Iranian volleyball players will have a stopover in South Korea on their way to Japan to feature in the Asian Olympics qualifiers, and are slated to take on South Korea’s national volleyball team in a friendly match.
The IRIVF president said Iran’s national squad will also be holding a camp in Germany, and play preparation encounters against Poland, France and Germany.
The Asian volleyball qualification tournament for the 2016 Summer Olympics will open in Tokyo, Japan, on May 28, and will conclude on June 5.
The volleyball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be played between August 6 and 21.
A total of 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams will participate in the prestigious international tournament.
The indoor volleyball competitions will take place at Ginasio do Maracanazinho in Maracana, while beach volleyball matches will be held at Copacabana Beach.
