National Iranian cadet freestyle wrestling team has ended its campaign at Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup with commendable displays of gripping skills and skills, and finished as the vice-champion in the international sporting event.
On Thursday, Iran’s Ali Hafezipour was downed by his Azerbaijani opponent Ramiz Hasanov 8-2 in the final encounter of cadet 42-kilogram weight category at Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Center in the Azeri capital city of Baku, and clinched the silver medal.
In the same weight class, Seyed Ali Azimi prevailed over another representative from Azerbaijan in the third-place bout and settled for the bronze.
In the 46-kilogram class, Mehdi Eshghi overwhelmed his Azeri rival Ilgar Majidov 10-0 by a technical fall and picked up a gold medal for Iran.
Amir Hossein Khodabakhshi also won a bronze medal in this weight division.
Amir Parasteh outmuscled Asgar Mammadaliyev from Azerbaijan 4-0 in the 50-kilogram to snatch another for Iran.
Majid Dastan conceded a 0-5 defeat from Azerbaijan’s Mohammadhaji Gasimov in the cadet 54-kilogram weight class, and claimed the silver medal.
Iran’s Reza Alijanzadeh collected the bronze medal in this category.
Hamid Rahimi lost 2-3 to Turkish competitor Memar Kilic in the last competition of the 58-kilogram category to clinch another silver medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Erfan Ja’fari and Mostafa Najafi also received gold medals in the 100-kilogram and 76-kilogram weight categories respectively.
Additionally, Amir Hossein Kavousi in the 63-kilogram and Sajjad Gholami in the 69-kilogram weight sections won silver medals.
Azerbaijani cadet freestyle wrestlers won the competition with 86 points followed by Iran (85) and Turkey (76).
Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Cup started in Baku on April 26 and finished on April 29, 2016.
The tournament brought together some 100 wrestlers from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
