Syrian Kurds declare federal region in North

Syrian Kurdish officials have declared a federal region in the Kurdish-controlled areas of the country’s north.
The decision was taken during a two-day meeting of 200 delegates of Kurdish, Turkmen, and Arab groups in the town of Rameilan in Hasakah province. The declared federal region would unify three mainly Kurdish cantons of Jazira, Kobani, and Afrin. A Kurdish official said they see the federalization as the only solution to the current crisis. He added that the new federal region has been called Rojava.
