Iranian Paralympic weightlifter Hamzeh Mohammadi his produced a fine display of strength and prowess at the seventh edition of Fazza International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, scooping up a bronze medal.
On Tuesday, the men’s minus 59-kilogram weight category saw a battle between Egypt’s Shaaban Ibrahim, Algerian contestant Hocine Bettir and Iran’s Mohammadi at Dubai Club For The Disabled.
Mohammadi failed in his first attempt of 187 kilogram, but Bettir and Shaaban managed to elevate 190 and 187 kilograms overhead respectively
The Iranian competitor responded in the second attempt, achieving 187 kilograms. His Algerian and Egyptian opponents attempted 192 kilograms each, and were successful.
In the third attempt, Mohammadi finished with bronze with 193 kilograms. Bettir lifted 194 kilograms and took silver.
Shaaban attempted 194 kilograms and was successful to pick up the gold medal.
The seventh edition of Fazza IPC Powerlifting World Cup began in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on February 15 and will finish on February 19, 2016.
More than 200 athletes from 40 countries, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, Britain, Egypt, Iran, Ivory Coast, Japan, Morocco, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, have participated in the tournemnt.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Sport Federation for The Disabled has dispatched a seven-strong delegation to the event.
Hamzeh Mohammadi is in action in minus 65-kilogram, Majid Farzin in minus 80-kilogram, Hamed Solhipour in minus 88-kilogram, Saman Razi in minus 97-kilogram, Mansour Pourmirzaei and Ali Sadeghzadeh in minus 107-kilogram, and Siamand Rahman in over 107-kilogram weight categories.
