At least 17 people are killed in a US drone strike in the Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, the local Khaama Press says.

The strike in the Achin district on Friday targeted a crowd who had gathered to watch Daesh's beheading of Taliban militants and an Afghan soldier, the report said.

An official source said Daesh terrorists had asked the people to attend beheading of seven people.

The drone attack took place as the fifth beheading was underway, a local resident told Khaama Press.

A provincial spokesman said the fatalities included four Daesh commanders and an unknown number of civilians.

On Friday, clashes left 13 Takfiri terrorists dead and more than 10 Taliban injured in Nangarhar’s Chaparhar district.

Taliban leaders have warned Daesh against “waging a parallel insurgency in Afghanistan” which has seen the terrorist group expand its outreach in the country.

Last month, Afghan Air Force conducted airstrikes against Daesh in Achin, killing 68 members of the group.

Daesh mainly operates in Syria and Iraq, where it has seized parts of the territory of the two countries.

Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity 14 years after the US and its allies attacked the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.

Although the 2001 attack overthrew the Taliban, many areas across Afghanistan still face violence and insecurity.
