Press TV has conducted an exclusive interview with Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in Tehran to discuss the main challenges facing the current government of Afghanistan, including terrorism.
Answering a question about the presence of Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Afghanistan, Abdullah said that Daesh is not a significant force in Afghanistan unlike Syria or Iraq, although they have some channels in Afghanistan, as other terrorists, for receiving their funds.
“There is no doubt that they [Daesh terrorists] have good resources,” Abdullah said, refusing to give any further comments about the countries or persons who are providing these resources for Daesh militants.
“It [Daesh] is a threat. It is a threat for Afghanistan. It is a threat for region. It is a threat for global peace and Afghanistan is determined to deal with it and at the same time it is not as significant force in Afghanistan as Taliban,” Abdullah noted.
In another part of the interview, he also emphasized that during the past years, Afghanistan has obtained many precious security achievements and thanks to them, terrorists no longer have any basis among Afghan people.
Although there have been some mistakes whether on the side of the Afghan government or international forces, Abdullah said, we are working together to deal with the remaining security challenges.
“The future is with the people of Afghanistan who want stable Afghanistan, peaceful Afghanistan,” he underscored.
Also talking about the late Afghan political and military leader Ahmad Shah Massoud and his approach towards the issue of security, Abdullah described him as “a national hero,” adding that if Ahmad Shah Massoud was alive today, he would definitely have better ideas for Afghan officials in the face of security challenges.
He finally reiterated that it is important for all neighbors of Afghanistan to adopt a clear strategy towards the issue of terrorism and not to tolerate it in order to uproot the current insurgency in Afghanistan.
Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Tehran on Monday at the top of a high-ranking delegation for an official three-day visit. He has had some meetings with senior Iranian officials, including Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
