Iran’s Bimeh Razi claims Greco-Roman Wrestling Clubs Cup title

Iran’s wrestling team of Bimeh Razi has performed outstandingly at the second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup in the Islamic Republic of Iran, landing in the first position of the tournament.

On Friday, the Iranian outfit, comprising Mohsen Hajipour, Omid Norouzi, Afshin Biabangard, Saeed Abdevali, Yousef Ghaderian, Habibollah Akhlaqi and Mehdi Aliyari, emerged victorious in its final contests staged at Khalij-e Fars Hall of Shahid Jahan Ara Sports Complex in Iran’s southwestern port city of Khorramshahr, and overcame Armenia’s Dinamo club.

Mohsen Hajipour, 27, overcame Dinamo’s Narek Khachatryan 8-6 in the men’s 85-kilogram weight category.

Omid Norouzi prevailed over Hovhannes Varderesyan 6-0 in the 66-kilogram weight division, and Afshin Biabangard defeated Armen Hakobyan 4-0 in the 71-kilogram section.

The second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup started in Khorramshahr, Iran, on December 17, 2015, and wrapped up the next day.

Saeed Abdevali downed Ruben Gharibyan 9-0 in the 75-kilogram weight class, and Yousef Ghaderian defeated Gegham Torgomyan 3-0 in the 80-kilogram category.

In the 85-kilogram class, Habibollah Akhlaqi overwhelmed Argisht Abgaryan 8-0, and Mehdi Aliyari conquered Karen Abgaryan with the same result in the 98-kilogram class.

Dinamo’s sole winner was Vachik Yeghiazaryan, who had no Bimeh Razi opponent to wrestle with in the 130-kilogram weight category.

Iran’s Padideh Dokouheh Andimeshk club also triumphed over Hungarian Budapest TF Greco-Roman wrestling team in the third-place bouts, and settled for the bronze podium.

The second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup opened in Khorramshahr on December 17, and concluded the following day.

Bimeh Razi received $50,000 for claiming the title, while Dinamo earned $25,000 for finishing as the runner-up. 

On November 27, Bimeh Razi breezed past American Titan Mercury 7-1 at the World Wrestling Clubs Cup final in Iran, and took top billing with $50,000.

Titan Mercury wrestling club claimed the second place with $30,000 in prize money.

Iran’s Kefayati Mashhad also overcame Tashir club of Armenia 7-1 in the third-place bouts and settled for the bronze podium as well as $20,000.

The two-day tournament brought a total of 15 teams together at Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran.
