Three killed, four injured in California shooting

Two women and one man, all in their twenties, were shot dead.

At least three people have been killed and four others have been injured in a shooting incident in the US state of California, according to police.

The incident happened outside a convenience store near downtown Stockton on Tuesday night, police spokesman Joe Silva said.

Two women and one man, all in their twenties, were shot dead.

“The remaining victims, a 38-year-old man, a 32-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and a 24-year-old man are still at area hospitals and it appears they will survive their injuries,” Stockton police said.

The preliminary investigation indicated the incident was a drive-by shooting and possibly has some type of gang component due to the area.

Homicide and gang unit detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

Police “suspect it was gang-related due to the high amount of gang and drug activity in the area,” Silva said.

Every year, more than 30,000 people are shot and killed in the United States.

The US averages 87 deaths each day as a function of gun violence, with an average of 183 injured, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab and the Centers for Disease Control.

Many critics blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the US for the country’s high rate of gun violence.
