Nojavanan blanks Azerbaijan in 2018 AFC Championship warm-up match

The Iran national under-17 football team, more commonly known as Nojavanan, has drubbed the Azerbaijani outfit in a friendly as part of preparations for the upcoming 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship in Malaysia.

On Tuesday evening, the Iranian footballers routed the hosts 4-0 in a match played at the Baku Olympic Stadium in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku.

Amir Sha’abani netted the opener in the first half of the scrimmage.

Mohammad Amin Hazbavi doubled Iran’s lead five minutes into the second period, when he managed to bury the ball in the back of the net.

Alireza Bavieh and Mehdi Seyyedi could score two more goals for Nojavanan in the 63rd and 70th minutes respectively.

During the official draw conducted at the AFC House in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur on April 26, the Iran national under-17 football team was put in Group C of the preliminary round of the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship, and joined squads from India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Japan, the host nation, Tajikistan and Thailand formed Group A in the tournament.

Jordan, North Korea, Oman and Yemen were drawn in Group B.

Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq and South Korea shaped Group D.

The 2018 AFC U-16 Championship will kick off on September 20, and will wrap up on October 7.
