Palestinian karateka scoops gold in World Cadet & Junior Championships

Palestinian karateka Mariam Bsharat has featured impressive athletic skills during the 2024 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Italy, and ranked first at the prestigious international tournament.

Bsharat showed a commendable display of vim and vigor in her march to the final competition of cadet kumite female over 61-kilogram category at the
Palazzo del Turismo Jesolo in Venice on Saturday.

She eventually emerged triumphant (2-0) in her last encounter against Roaa Mohamed, a representative from Egypt, and scooped up the gold.

Earlier, she had overwhelmed Bosnian opponent Ajlin Kurtanovic (4-0), Swiss contestant Esma Redzic (1-0), Belgian rival Maissa Sridi (7-1) respectively, before beating Italian competitor Nicole Correddu (8-3) in the semi-final round and booking a place in the final showdown.

Correddu landed in the third place to receive the bronze medal. 

The 2024 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Italy, which the 13th edition of the competition for U21 karate athletes organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF), opened in Venice, Italy, on October 9, and concluded on October 13.

The tournament brought together dozens of male and female karate fighters from various world countries, including Albania, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain and the United States.

Earlier, Bsharat had won a gold medal at the 2024 AKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Manila, the Philippines.

She had also collected a gold medal at the 2024 Karate 1 Youth League in A Coruña, Spain.
