Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force has captured 15 more terrorists in the course of the ongoing counterterrorism military exercise in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.

In a statement on Thursday, the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base said it had conducted a precise and large-scale ground operation over the past few days in the regions straddling the border with Pakistan.

The statement said the terrorists were arrested as they planned to carry out acts of sabotage in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The operation was carried out as part of the “Martyrs of Security” drill, with aerial support from IRGC attack helicopters and drone units during which a large amount of weapons and ammunition was confiscated from the terrorists.

The Sistan and Baluchestan province, which borders Pakistan, has witnessed several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces over the past years.

Terrorist groups carrying out attacks against Iranian interests in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country are believed to be linked to foreign intelligence services.

The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault on Iranian security forces on October 26 last year, which was one of the deadliest in the province in recent years.

The group has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Iran, primarily in Sistan and Baluchestan. Its tactics include the abduction of border guards as well as targeting civilians and police stations within the province to incite chaos and disorder.
