Israel killing Gaza children
Relentless Israeli air and artillery strikes continue to devastate Gaza, resulting in more civilian deaths and injuries across the blockaded territory. In one of the strikes, at least five people were killed, and several others injured when Israeli warplanes bombed a Palestinian home in the al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. An earlier strike claimed the life of at least one Palestinian near the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Israeli artillery also shelled several areas across Gaza, leading to an unknown number of casualties. According to the Gaza Media Office, nearly 5-thousand Palestinians have been killed or gone missing in the ongoing Israeli onslaught on northern Gaza over the past 100 days. Around 9-thousand five-hundred others have been injured. Officials report that about 70 children have been killed in the past five days alone. Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023. It has so far claimed the lives of 46,500 people and injured over 109,000 others.
Plight of Palestinian prisoners
Multiple Palestinian organizations have come up with a new report detailing the ordeal Gaza detainees have gone through in Israeli jails in recent months. The report, which is based on testimony from nearly two dozen detainees, shows the inmates went through abuses - ranging from systematic torture, severe mistreatment and medical neglect to brutal beatings and starvation. It also highlights the spread of highly contagious skin diseases among prisoners. The report says many detainees are left with lasting physical and psychological trauma as abuses began soon after their arrest, particularly during the initial interrogation. These abuses have been reported in several Israeli prisons, including Sde Teiman, Naqab, and Ofer. According to previous reports, 54 Palestinians have died in Israeli jails since the onset of the Gaza war. Israel has detained over 25,000 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, al-Quds, and Gaza over the past 15 months.
Situation in Syria
Iran’s foreign minister calls for the protection of Syria’s territorial integrity and respect for the Syrian people’s right to self-determination with no foreign presence and interference. Abbas Araghchi made the comment in a decree he issued to appoint Mohammad Reza Ra’ouf Sheibani as his special representative for Syria’s affairs. Araghchi described Syria as an important country in West Asia, saying that peace and stability in the Arab country have an effect on regional peace and security. The top Iranian diplomat said the Syrian people themselves will decide the future of their country. He noted that Iran will regulate its relations based on mutual respect and interests as well as international law with any government which comes out of people’s collective will. Araghchi added that good neighborliness is a major principle of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy.
