Six, including 2 soldiers, killed in Israeli strikes on Lebanon-Syria border crossings

At least six people are killed as Israeli warplanes strike official crossings at al-Arida in the countryside of the western Syrian province of Tartus for the first time, on November 27, 2024.

At least six people have been killed after Israeli warplanes carried out a string of airstrikes against several border crossings between Syria and Lebanon.

“The Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of Lebanese territory at 00:05 a.m. local time on Wednesday (2105 GMT Tuesday), targeting border crossings between Syria and Lebanon,” reported Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing an unnamed military source.

The source added, “The aggression killed six people, including two soldiers while the rest were civilians, and injured 12 others, including children, women and Syrian Arab Red Crescent workers.”

The Israeli attacks caused significant damage in the targeted border crossings, the source noted.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Israeli aircraft struck official crossings at al-Arida in the countryside of the western province of Tartus for the first time, as well as Daboussieh and Jusiyah in the countryside of the central-western province of Homs.

Unofficial crossings in Wadi Khaled in rural Homs and three bridges over the al-Kabir River, which separates Syria and Lebanon, were also targeted, the Britain-based monitor group said.

With the latest strikes, the majority of land crossings between Syria and Lebanon have been rendered out of service, according to the observatory.

Syrian state television reported that 18 people were injured at the al-Arida crossing, with three in critical condition.

A report from Sham FM radio station reported six deaths and 15 injuries at the Daboussieh crossing in Homs.

Israel often conducts strikes on military sites within Syria, particularly those associated with the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah, which has been instrumental in supporting the Syrian army in its battle against foreign-backed terrorist groups.

Many civilians have fallen victim to these attacks.

The fresh Israeli airstrikes against Syria come amid the Zionist regime’s bloody onslaughts against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, and the Lebanese nation.

Following the unprecedented military operation of Al-Aqsa Flood conducted by Palestinian resistance movements on October 7, 2023, Israel unleashed extensive air and ground assaults on Gaza, targeting hospitals, residential areas, and places of worship.

Hezbollah set up a support front for the Palestinians in Gaza only a day after the Israeli regime started a devastating military campaign against the besieged region, targeting Israeli positions inside the occupied territories in support of the Palestinians.
