First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi House of Representatives Mohsen al-Mandalawi has warned against potential Israeli strikes on his country over resistance groups’ operations against key positions in the occupied lands.
“Washington should be held accountable for any Zionist foolishness in expanding the extent of aggression in the region after it vetoed a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution demanding an immediate cessation of war” in the Gaza Strip, Mandalawi said on Thursday.
His remarks came after reports said the US had told the Iraqi government that it had allegedly exhausted its efforts to put pressure on Israel not to attack Iraqi territory. Washington reportedly noted predictions that Israel may launch strikes “soon” against Iraqi resistance forces.
Mandalawi vehemently rejected a complaint lodged by Israel with the United Nations Security Council against Iraq and denounced diplomatic and media pressure on the Baghdad government as well as speculations of an imminent Israel attack on Iraqi soil.
Such moves are concurrent with the diplomatic efforts of the Iraqi parliament and government at regional and international bodies to stop Israeli onslaughts against Palestinian and Lebanese nations, Mandalawi stated.
“These [Israeli] measures are nothing but attempts aimed at continuation of massacre and destruction in the region, and are indicative of the viciousness of the Zionist entity and its thirst for blood,” he said.
Mandalawi said the Israeli regime has no respect whatsoever for the UN Security and General Assembly resolutions, and its persistence in genocide, displacement and siege of Palestinian and Lebanese peoples substantiate its hypocrisy.
He said Iraq will never change its firm support for Gaza and Lebanon. "A nation that espouses the belief not to accept humiliation will never be intimidated or deterred by a criminal and terrorist entity."
On Monday, Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar sent a letter to the UN Security Council, asking the body to pressure the Iraqi government to end attacks by resistance fighters in the Arab country against the Tel Aviv regime’s interests.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, has been conducting numerous operations against sensitive targets lying across the Israeli-occupied territories since October 7 last year, when the Zionist entity began waging a bloody onslaught against the Gaza Strip.
It has also carried out retaliatory attacks against the US occupation bases across Iraq and neighboring Syria due to Washington’s unbridled political, military, and intelligence support for Israel’s atrocities in Gaza.
