Israeli military forces have killed a Palestinian man and detained several others during separate raids across the West Bank, as tensions have dramatically escalated in the occupied territory since Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began more than a year ago.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA said Israeli special forces fatally shot the 37-year-old man, identified as Abdul Raouf Rajih Hamed al-Masry, early on Wednesday after surrounding his house in the town of 'Aqqaba, located north of the city of Tubas.

Local sources reported that additional military reinforcements were dispatched to the town, located northeast of the West Bank, following the deadly incident.

Masry’s killing came as Israeli forces carried out raids in towns and cities across the West Bank late on Tuesday and into the early hours of Wednesday.

Israeli troops raided several neighborhoods in the central West Bank cities of Ramallah and al-Bireh, where one young man whose identity is not yet known was abducted.

A young man was wounded in the town of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus, when Israeli forces deployed a sound bomb amid clashes.

Five Palestinians sustained bruises and wounds on Tuesday evening, when Israeli troops stormed a neighborhood of Kafr Qaddum town, located 13 kilometers (8 miles) west of Nablus.

Moreover, Israeli forces took away a Palestinian man after opening fire on his vehicle in the city of Yatta, located approximately 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) south of the city of al-Khalil.

In the town of al-Khader, Israeli forces fired tear gas and sound bombs amid confrontations with local residents.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian prisoners' rights group says the Israeli army rounded up 30 Palestinians on Tuesday in military raids across the West Bank.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said in a statement that the raids were carried out in the cities of al-Khalil, Bethlehem, East al-Quds, and Nablus in the occupied territory.

“The raids were marked by abuse, threats against detainees and their families, and acts of vandalism and destruction on citizens' homes,” it added.

The new arrests brought to 11,200 the number of Palestinians detained by the Israeli army in the West Bank since last year.

The figure, however, does not include those detained from the Gaza Strip whose numbers are estimated to be in the thousands.

Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed at least 678 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since October 7 last year.

Last month, a UN expert warned that Israel had ramped up its military assaults on the northern West Bank, leading to a “dangerous escalation.”

“The writing is on the wall, and we cannot continue to ignore it. There is mounting evidence that no Palestinian is safe under Israel’s unfettered control,” Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, said in a statement.

She noted that “systematic aerial and ground attacks” in the areas of Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm and Tubas — and in refugee camps in particular — had intensified over the past few months.
