Thousands march in Cape Town to support Palestinians ahead of Gaza war anniversary
Thousands of South Africans marched in Cape Town on Saturday (October 5) to show solidarity with Palestinians, nearly a year after the start of the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Protesters carried Palestinian flags and banners, released smoke in the colors of the Palestinian flag, and paraded a giant puppet draped in Palestinian colors.
The demonstration, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), ended at Parliament where marchers delivered a memorandum.
The document called for Parliament to adopt a bill implementing the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid.
Earlier this year, South Africa asked the International Court of Justice to order Israel to refrain from acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention. South Africa accused Israel of state-led genocide in Gaza, which Israel and its Western allies called baseless.
