Iran top-ranked at World Innovation Award 2024 ceremony in Moscow

The Islamic Republic of Iran has claimed the top position at the World Innovation Award 2024 ceremony in the Russian capital city of Moscow, which brought together leaders in urban innovation from the BRICS group of emerging countries.

The mayor of Tehran, Alireza Zakani, won the title in the Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure category of the ceremony, which took place at Zaryadye Park.

The award ceremony was part of the sixth edition of the International Municipal Forum of BRICS countries.

The forum drew delegates from 126 countries and reportedly covered 13 areas of work, including international municipal cooperation, economy, digital technologies, industry, energy, urban infrastructure, transport, ecology, healthcare, education, science, culture, sports, and tourism.

The event included more than 70 business events and a large-scale exhibition, showcasing the annual international exhibitions “DIGITECH+” and “Mechanical engineering: strategies and technologies.”

The World Innovation Award recognizes individuals from developing nations, who have made significant personal contributions to advancing sustainable development.

Their efforts in implementing and utilizing innovative solutions have played a crucial role in achieving these goals.

It is given to leaders from developing countries, who have made a significant personal contribution to achieving sustainable development goals through systematic efforts to implement and use innovative solutions.

The award ceremony is an important event in the world of innovation, highlighting the significance and priority of innovation in achieving sustainable development.

The award winners are recognized as leaders in innovation, whose projects have become examples of best practices and inspiration for other countries and regions.

Lotfollah Forouzandeh received the award on behalf of Zakani. He conveyed the warm greetings of the mayor of Tehran to the municipal representatives of BRICS member states, and briefly elaborated on the implementation process of the “I Am the Mayor” project, its functions as well as its multi-million reception by Tehran residents.

Iran officially became a member of BRICS at the beginning of this year, five months after it announced its acceptance as a full member into the group along with Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

BRICS was formed by and initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which collectively represent around 40% of the global population and a quarter of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP).
