IRGC adviser martyred following injuries in US-led airstrike in Syria
A military adviser of the Aerospace Division of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has been martyred from injuries in a recent airstrike in Syria by the US-led occupation.
“Colonel Ahmadreza Afshari, a distinguished officer and adviser in the IRGC Aerospace Division, was martyred in Syria due to injuries sustained during an airstrike,” IRGC Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami wrote in a message of condolence on Thursday.
Afshari was seriously wounded in the airstrike by the “aggressive” occupation forces between July 22 and August 5 in Syria, Gen. Salami said.
He was transported to Iran for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, the IRGC chief commander added.
"I extend my congratulations and condolences on the martyrdom of this honorable soldier. I ask the Almighty God to elevate this dear martyr to the highest ranks and grant him companionship with the martyrs of Karbala,” Gen. Salami said.
Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria at the request of Damascus to help the war-torn Arab country defeat the foreign-backed militants who have been fighting the democratically-elected government since 2011.
Israel and the United States frequently target military positions inside Syria, especially those of resistance fighters, who have played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.
Their attacks on Syria's civilian and military infrastructure have grown in intensity since Israel ignited its bloody war machine in the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
