The military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says it has targeted Tel Aviv and its suburbs with missiles in response to the Israeli regime’s ongoing genocidal war in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Qassam Brigades made the statement on Tuesday, after the occupying regime carried out fresh airstrikes across Gaza, killing at least 19 people.
“We have bombed the city of Tel Aviv and its suburbs with two ‘M90’ missiles in response to the Zionist massacres against civilians and the deliberate displacement of our people,” it said.
Israeli media reported that explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and that it was estimated that two rockets were fired from Gaza.
The Israeli military also claimed that one rocket, which was fired from the southern Gaza Strip, landed in the sea off the coast of Tel Aviv and that another did not reach the occupied territories. There were no reports of casualties.
Earlier in the day, Israel launched airstrikes on central and southern Gaza, killing at least 19 Palestinians.
An Israeli strike on the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza left six people dead, while seven others were killed in an air raid on al-Bureij camp.
Two separate strikes on central Gaza's al-Maghazi refugee camp and the southern city of Rafah also left four people dead. Another two Palestinians were killed after an Israeli strike hit a house in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City, according to medics.
The latest development comes as the United States, Qatar and Egypt have called for the resumption of negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of prisoners and captives.
The three countries have been trying to mediate a deal for several months now. They aim to resume ceasefire talks later in the week.
