Foreign dignitaries meet with Pezeshkian on sidelines of swearing-in ceremony

A number of foreign dignitaries who have traveled to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have met and held talks with the new president.

In a meeting on the sidelines of his swearing-in ceremony in the capital Tehran on Tuesday, Pezeshkian told visiting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that strengthening and developing relations with the neighboring countries is the priority of Iran’s foreign policy.

He also hailed the relations between Tehran and Yerevan as “long-standing, historical, friendly, and based on good neighborliness,” noting that with the commitment of high-ranking officials from both countries in the new term, Iran will try to further strengthen bilateral relations.  

Pezeshkian said the friendly and amicable cooperation between the two countries are “a suitable platform for the development of communications routes in various commercial and economic, cultural, scientific and technological sectors.”

The Iranian president also stated that Iran considers connecting routes, including the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), as an opportunity for the development and progress of all countries in the region, adding that the completion of projects in this sector will be one of the new administration’s priorities. 

Pashinyan, for his part, said his country attaches great importance to its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the diplomatic relations between the two countries as “strategic” and “deeply-rooted”.

He also noted that Armenia is interested in developing and expanding relations with Iran in all areas, stressing that signing different memoranda of understanding between Tehran and Yerevan in various fields bear testimony to the amicable relations between the two countries.

In a meeting with visiting Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Pezeshkian described the development of relations between the two countries as only as “a win-win gain”, both for Tehran and Tbilisi as well as the entire region

Iran, he said, like Georgia is determined to employ the potential to expand bilateral ties in line with the well-being and development of the two nations, while emphasizing that the new Iranian government prioritizes bolstering ties with neighboring countries.

Kobakhidze, for his part, once again congratulated Pezeshkian on his victory in Iran's elections, saying that Tbilisi is committed to deepening and strengthening ties with Tehran.

He also noted that Iran holds “an important and constructive role” in the region, expressing pleasure that “a friendly atmosphere prevails in the relations between the two countries."

Pezeshkian also met with Ashimbayev Maulen Sagathanuly, chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan., saying the bilateral relations are based on ancient interactions and cultural commonalities.

He said even today, political borders have not limited the cultural and historical connections of the two countries, stressing that establishing a regional union will result in the point that cooperation between countries be more prominent.

Ashimbayev, for his part, voiced his country’s readiness and interest in expanding relations with Iran in various fields, stressing that Kazakhstan considers the Islamic Republic as a “strategic partner”.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the visiting Malaysian Parliament speaker Johari Abdul, Pezeshkian vowed to strengthen the friendly relations between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur. 

He also stressed the need for more unity among Muslim countries in order to prevent the crimes of the Israeli regime, while appreciating Malaysia's positions on Palestine.

Pezeshkian also held a meeting with his Tajikistani counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

Pezeshkian, 69, was sworn in as Iran's president in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon. Presidents, vice-presidents, deputy ministers, Parliament speakers, ambassadors, and some 600 domestic and foreign journalists will join the ceremony.
