Palestinian man killed cruel Israeli jailer in 'heroic operation': Sources

Yochai Avni Avni was a dog handler at Israel's maximum security Ofer prison, one of the many Israeli prisons where Palestinians face severe torture.

A young Palestinian man, identified as 23-year-old Ibrahim Mansour, has been the executor of "the heroic resistance operation" in which he killed an Israeli officer notorious for torturing prisoners, according to Palestinian resistance sources.

Mansour, who is said to be affiliated with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, killed an Israeli prison service officer in his home in the occupied al-Quds earlier this month.

Ibrahim, a liberated prisoner who was subjected to administrative detention and torture inside the occupying regime's prisons, was released last April.

According to Israel's so-called internal security service, Shin Bet, the suspect who murdered 40-year-old Yochai Avni on July 8 was detained just two days after the operation. However, the information was only cleared for publication on Monday.

The Israeli officer, who worked for 17 years in the occupation prisons, had received threats from prisoners due to his severe torture of Palestinian prisoners in "Ofer" prison.

Two weeks ago, Avni was found dead after being stabbed, and his home was set on fire in a settlement near occupied al-Quds.

Initially, the Israeli intelligence claimed the operation was carried out by a cell.

Mansour, a resident of the Biddu town in the occupied West Bank, has been hailed by Palestinian resistance factions for staging a complicated and sophisticated operation.

After the operation, the Israeli authorities were astonished at how a liberated prisoner managed to enter a fortified settlement.

The occupying regime authorities also revealed that Mansour had attempted to break into other houses in the settlement at that time.

Hamas: Operation in 1948-occupied land natural response to crimes of Israel

Separately, Hamas has hailed a successful operation by a fellow fighter in the south of the 1948 occupied territories.

In a statement released on Monday, Hamas said a previously reported stabbing attack in the Netiv HaAsara area of the southern occupied territories “is a natural response to the continued crimes and massacres of the occupation in the Gaza Strip, the continued attacks by settlers in the West Bank and the violations of the occupation army against our Islamic and Christian sanctities”.

Quoting Israeli authorities, The Times of Israel reported that the attacker approached soldiers while saying the Israeli army “is killing civilians in Gaza” and drew a knife before the soldiers shot him.

Since the Israeli war in Gaza began in early October, Palestinian resistance factions have staged similar operations inside occupied territories, saying they prove the resistance's long reach and its ability to strike deep into Zionist territory.
