South Africa marks Mandela day amid struggle to end poverty

South Africans have marked International Nelson Mandela Day to remember their iconic anti-apartheid leader. During his life, Mandela worked to strengthen freedom and equality at home and abroad. This year’s celebrations coincide with the 30th anniversary of the birth of South Africa’s democratic government, which under Mandela’s leadership, ended decades of apartheid.
