At least three Israeli settlers have been injured in a retaliatory shooting operation in the northeastern flank of the West Bank, as tensions are rising in the occupied territory amid relentless ground and aerial offensives against the besieged Gaza Strip.
An unnamed Israeli military official said the three were lightly wounded by glass shards after their vehicle came under fire near the town of Beit Lid, located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of Tulkarm, on Tuesday morning.
The Israeli army has launched a manhunt for the shooters.
Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency response service reported that the three people, aged 32, 16, and 15, were hurt by flying glass, treated at the scene and then taken to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba.
MDA added they said they had heard eight or nine shots but did not see the shooter.
The incident came after a young Palestinian man was shot dead overnight over an alleged stabbing attack against an Israeli officer near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
The Israeli police claimed that the 19-year-old Palestinian ran toward the troops with a knife, stabbing a "border police officer" and lightly wounding him.
Israeli troops on the scene fatally shot the Palestinian.
Young Palestinian man shot dead in West Bank
Meanwhile, a young Palestinian man has been killed after Israeli forces carried out a raid in the central West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing local sources, reported that Israeli troops stormed the city of al-Bireh on Tuesday morning, prompting confrontations with local residents.
Security sources said Ahmed Ramzi Abd Sultan, 20, was killed after being shot by live bullets at al-Balou’ roundabout north of the city.
Since Israel unleashed a war on the besieged Gaza Strip in early October 2023, casualties have been rising in the West Bank as a result of intensified near-daily Israeli raids into villages and cities in the occupied territories.
More than 550 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or extremist Jewish settlers since the war began. Over 9,300 Palestinians have been detained as well.
At least 38,664 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have also been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip over the past eight months during the regime’s genocidal war.
