Iran presidential vote
Iranians get ready to cast their ballots in the country’s 2024 presidential election to choose a new president for the next four years. Polls will open at 0430 GMT. Over 61 million people are eligible to cast their ballots in some 59,000 polling stations across the country. Iranian expats will also be able to vote in nearly 100 countries. People will choose a new president for Iran for the next four years. Six candidates have been approved for the election that was organized after the passing of President Ebrahim Raeisi in a helicopter crash. The contenders have been holding three weeks of intense campaign rallies and meetings.
US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
No end in sight to Israel’s thirst for blood. Nearly nine months into the Israeli bloodbath in Gaza, the regime keeps pummeling the already devastated strip, killing more innocent civilians. Four Palestinians were killed and 20 others injured after Israeli artillery struck tents housing displaced people in the southern city of Rafah. Another four were killed and 16 wounded in airstrikes targeting the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Elsewhere in the center, Israeli airstrikes on Al-Zawaida town claimed several lives. The regime’s airstrikes and shelling also continue to pound residential areas in and around Gaza City, forcing thousands of those already sheltering there to evacuate. The total death toll since October 7th has risen to over 37,700. Over 86,000 were also injured, with thousands still trapped under the rubble.
Anti-Netanyahu protests
Thousands of Israelis have once again rallied against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, demanding his removal from power. Protesters, equipped with megaphones, banners, and drums, gathered outside Netanyahu’s residence in Al-Quds city. They chanted slogans against him, demanding his resignation and new elections. Many in the crowd also expressed support for negotiating a deal to free approximately 120 Israeli captives held by the Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza. Demonstrators criticized Netanyahu’s policies, highlighting his failure to secure the captives’ release. Such protests have become more frequent as the regime’s genocidal war in Gaza continues and tensions escalate with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
