Qalibaf: I will pursue sanctions-removal negotiations if elected president

Iranian presidential candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Iranian presidential candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf calls sanctions one of the main dilemmas of the country that needs to be solved.

Addressing a campaign event in Tehran on Saturday, Qalibaf said he is not against negotiations to terminate the economic sanctions against the country.

“At a time when some said sanctions are nothing more than a paper that can be ripped, I disagreed with them,” he said. “I am not against negotiations. As a matter of fact, negotiations are one way of fighting and we must know how to be able to perform it against our enemy.”

He also commented on the US’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, officially called the JCPOA, saying, “We must negotiate in a way that doesn’t allow them to harm us. The US withdrew from the agreement when it saw that it hadn’t achieved any benefits from it.”

He reiterated that if elected as president, he will pursue negotiations to terminate the sanctions.
