Cairo ceasefire talks

Attention is focused on the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where intensive consultations are taking place to reach an agreement to ceasefire in Gaza and exchange prisoners between Israel and the Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas. A high-ranking delegation from Hamas, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, has arrived in Cairo to convey the movement's response to the latest proposal for a ceasefire. Some reports suggest that al-Hayya carries a message from the movement's leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, to the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel. The ceasefire proposal includes three stages, with the first stage involving a ceasefire for approximately 40 days, along with the release of Israeli captives on humanitarian grounds in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners. Despite intensified pressure from the US and Israel to unconditionally accept the proposal, Hamas remains adamant about achieving the demands of the Palestinian people on a permanent ceasefire and the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Earlier, the head of US intelligence, William Burns, arrived in Cairo, indicating the seriousness of the ongoing negotiations in the Egyptian capital.

Israel atrocities in West Bank

Palestinians are searching for bodies under the rubble after Israeli forces razed a house near the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm. The regime’s troopers besieged the house before demolishing it in the town of Deir al-Ghusun using bulldozer while the occupants were still inside. The Israeli military claimed that occupants had carried out a shooting attack in November, a pretext it often cites for the demolition drive as part of the regime's expansionist policy.

US pro-Palestine protest

University students across the world continue to protest against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and brutal police crackdown on American campuses. Starting with the US where the students have once again taken to the streets around New York University after police violently cleared a pro-Palestine encampment on the campus. Over a dozen people were also reportedly arrested there. Similar crackdown and arrests have taken place in other universities such as Yale, Columbia, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech among others. The police have rounded up more than 2,300 students and academic staff so far. US protests have spilled over to dozens of campuses around the world. Hundreds of students gathered at the Havana University in the Cuban capital in solidarity with their American counterparts. Similar protests are also underway in France, Canada and the UK.
