Hundreds of years of slavery and creating the United States with slaves' free labor have never earned African Americans equal footing in that society.
Millions of Africans were kidnapped from their homelands, chained to each other at the bottom of ships and transported thousands of miles away in harsh conditions to reach the ultimate hell of living as slaves under horrible conditions.
They were human beings who became commodities to be bought and sold and treated inhumanely by their so-called owners, with many literally being worked to death or beaten to death. Their children were born into slavery with no way out and this lasted for generations.
Now, a new Florida court ruling says teachers can no longer teach that slavery was all bad, but that African Americans learned life skills and benefited from it.
We have discussed this issue with our guests in this edition of the Spotlight program.
