An Iranian shot putter has claimed a gold medal at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships underway in the French capital of Paris.
Rashid Masjedi won a gold medal in the Men's Shot Put F53 with a throw of 8.49 meters on Tuesday, breaking the world record. He also secured a Paris 2024 Paralympic quota for Iran.
Meanwhile, Alireza Mokhtari stood in the fourth place with a record of 8.26 meters, also securing a Paris 2024 Paralympic quota for Iran.
The 10th edition of the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships is underway in Paris, France on July 8-17.
Masjedi and Mokhtari secured the positions on the third day of the ongoing event after competing with opponents from Poland, Croatia, Kuwait, Morocco, Mexico, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
Back in March, Masjedi won the 2023 World Para Athletics Grand Prix title in Dubai, UAE.
Mokhtari had also bagged a silver medal in Men’s Shot Put F-35 in Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021.
