Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission said Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress scored the highest votes to beat sixteen other contenders.
Before the final tallies, three opposition political parties demanded the cancellation of the results due to what they called massive manipulation of the results.
The opposition political parties also called for the resignation of the chairman of the electoral commission.
However, the president-elect defended the integrity of the national election, and called on citizens to unite around him. Tinubu will succeed Muhammadu Buhari, who is stepping down after two terms.
Nigerians say Tinubu is expected to tackle a wide range of challenges affecting Nigerians. Some of the lingering challenges are insecurity, corruption, poor infrastructure and a large population of unemployed youths.
