A glamorous ceremony brought Iran’s documentary film festival, dubbed Cinema Verite, to an end. Nikolai Bam won the special prize of the jury in the international section, while Peruvian director, Manuel Bauer, also won a prize for his feature-length documentary.

Behrouz Nouranipour’s Three Nine Tthousandth also won two awards in different sections of the festival, including the Golden Award of the Avini section pertaining to war documentaries.

This year, a wide range of Iranian documentaries were also selected, depicting traditions, rituals, nature, and women in Iran. However, this time, the screenings were not limited to movie theaters across the country and permanent changes have been made to allow more viewers access the movies.

For those who cannot take part in the festival, online screenings are also available. According to the foreign participants, the online screenings are considered a unique opportunity.

Good documentaries glue the audience to their seats, with true yet touching stories, instead of fiction, and with genuine scenes, instead of visual effects. And movie critics, who took part in the festival this year, say documentaries that won the Cinema Verite award are definitely at the top the list of must-see movies.
