Iran hosts conference on warfare technology

Science and technology in warfare is the title of this conference. Senior Iranian military officials and experts have gathered here to review the advances Iran has made in the defense industry with a focus on the 1980s Iran-Iraq war.

The missile program is the cornerstone of the Iranian defense strategy. It emerged after Iran learned the art of reverse engineering on missiles it had acquired from Libya in the thick of the Iraqi imposed war in the 1980s.

To sum up the advances in a nutshell, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says today Iran produces hypersonic missiles all on its own.

With over four decades of sanctions, including eight years of war, Iran understood the importance of military independence, when world powers did not even supply Iran with barbed wires, let alone weapons.

The country says given Washington's permanent strategy of military threats against Tehran, the Islamic Republic has no choice but to build up its defense capabilities.

The Islamic Republic takes great pride in how it defended its sovereignty during the Iraqi imposed war, viewing it as a drive for its current self-sufficiency in the military technology. The IRGC says today the country produces more than 80-percent of the hardware needed to protect its soil.
