Israeli Aggression
Israeli forces kill a Palestinian man in the West Bank in the most recent case of such deadly violence in the occupied territories. The Palestinian man was shot dead following an alleged stabbing attack against the regime’s forces at a checkpoint in Nablus. Footage released on social media shows the Palestinian man shot four times at point-blank range as he was lying on the ground. The Palestinian Red Crescent says Israeli forces blocked emergency responders from reaching the victim. This will add to the nearly 210 Palestinians that have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of this year alone.
Russia-Ukraine war
Russia accuses Western countries of pursuing destructive policies by pumping Kiev with weapons and training the Ukrainian military. The Russian president says political and financial support from Ukraine’s Western allies has led to Kiev completely rejecting any negotiations. Vladimir Putin made the remarks during a phone conversation with the German chancellor. During the conversation, Olaf Sholz urged Putin to find a diplomatic solution to end the war, including pulling out Russian troops from Ukraine. Russia has said that it’s open to talks with the U-S on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. But the Kremlin says efforts to find a possible compromise are being hampered by the U S. It cites the US refusal to recognize the four Ukrainian regions Russia annexed in September.
Germany recession fears
Germany’s exports fell in October for the second month in a row. Official data have put the decline at point-six percent, twice as much as what analysts predicted. The fall is mainly due to softer demand from European Union countries. That’s according to Germany’s federal statistics agency that published the data. In the meantime, the German chambers of commerce and industry predict that exports would further fall next year, declining by two percent. It comes as fears of recession this winter have already grown in Germany, which is Europe’s largest economy. That’s because of high inflation coupled with declining foreign demand as well as strained supply chains. Inflation in Europe, caused by energy prices, has reached record levels in recent months in the wake of the Ukraine war.
