US stealing Syria oil

US forces have been accused of stealing tens of tankers, filled with Syrian oil from the country’s northeast.  Local sources in Yarubiya countryside say a convoy of more than 40 tankers, loaded with crude from wells occupied by American forces in Hasakah province left Syria through Mahmoudiya crossing. They say the convoy entered neighboring Iraq later on. The development comes as the United States maintains its illegal presence in Syria despite objection from Damascus. Syria says the presence of US forces there is aimed at tightening their grip on Syrian oil wells and looting the country’s resources.

China-Swiss relations

China warns Switzerland not to adopt restrictive measures against Beijing over alleged human rights violations. The Chinese ambassador to Switzerland said relations between Beijing and Bern will soar if Switzerland follows the EU by imposing sanctions on China. Wang Shihting urged Switzerland to act responsibly and not agree to the EU bans over alleged human rights abuses. Switzerland has not decided to follow the EU’s lead yet. But the neutral country has spoken more openly about rights violations in China. The Swiss government, however, has attached importance to bilateral relations with China, which is its biggest trading partner in Asia.

Russia-Ukraine War

Nearly ten months into the Russia-Ukraine war, fierce fighting rages between forces of the two countries in Ukraine’s east. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky says the Russian military is continuing its fierce attacks on the Donetsk region. In a video address, Zelensky said the Russian army is concentrating its forces and means for a possible repetition of attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, with energy sector being its prime target. Zelensky however, claimed Moscow is suffering serious losses there. Meanwhile, reports coming out of the Russian-held southern region of Kherson indicate the strategic Nova Kakhovka dam has been hit by a Ukrainian strike. In the city of Kherson, water and power supplies have been cut by what local authorities say was an act of sabotage and blames it on Ukraine.
