Martyrdom anniv. of Press TV’s first martyr in Afghanistan

Abdullah Amirzada
Press TV, Kabul

Back in September 2011, when the Americans still had presence in Afghanistan and the war was still on between the Taliban group and the US forces, the Taliban took over an under construction building from where it fired several rockets at the US embassy in Kabul. One of the rockets hit Press TV’s office in Wazir Akbar Khan district of the capital. Many people, including civilians and the office’ staff, were injured in the attack. Sayed Farhad Taqadosi was also severely wounded in the rocket attack and days later, he succumbed to his injuries.

Being the voice of the voiceless demands commitment and dedication, which have been proven by Farhad and other Press TV’s staff who lost a well experienced colleague. Farhad’s family and his colleagues have been missing him but what keeps them going is that they know he dedicated his life for what he believed in, the truth for all.

Farhad is not the only member Press TV has lost in Afghanistan. Habibullah Hussain Zada, another Press TV’s cameraman, became the victim of a Daesh bombing in Kabul in 2017. During the US occupation, Afghanistan was titled one of the most dangerous places for media workers. According to sources, more than 130 media workers were killed during 20 years of US military presence in Afghanistan.

The anniversary of Farhad’s martyrdom reminds many journalists that the path of seeking the truth is dangerous, but there are still many journalists who follow in their footsteps to convey the truth to the world.
