Miles covered on foot; mourners walked from their homes all the way to the city center in Karachi to join the main procession to show their love for Imam Hussain, the third Shia Imam.
Mourners have gathered here to commemorate the 40th day after the anniversary of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom and to show their respects for a man who sacrificed his life, but refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant of his time, Yazid.
The mourners chanted, "Stand like Hussain against Yazid of your time." The mourners recited elegies to remember the hardships of Prophet's grandson and the tragedy of Karbala, and protest against tyrants of the time.
Those who participated in the mourning ceremonies say they are inspired by Imam Hussain's philosophy of freedom. His devotees and die-hard followers believe his legacy will remain a ray of hope for ages to come and till then millions across the globe will keep flocking to Karbala to refresh their allegiance with their Imam.
