Liverpool have kept their pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City following a 2-0 win in a Merseyside derby at Anfield, which further deepened Everton’s relegation fears.
The Reds were forced to be patient but eventually broke the toffees’ resistance in the 62nd minute, when Andy Robertson arrived at the far post to head home a Mohammad Salah cross.
Liverpool wrapped up the win when substitute Divock Origi nodded-in a bicycle kick from Luis Diaz, 5 minutes from time.
The result means Everton sink to 18th spot, two points adrift of safety. In contrast, Liverpool are now back to within a point of EPL leaders City and will now switch focus to the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at home to Villarreal on Wednesday.
