Bar-Lev’s call for killing Palestinians represents Israel’s criminal nature: Senior Hamas official

A senior official of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has vehemently denounced Israeli public security minister Omer Bar-Lev's recent call for the detention and execution of Palestinians who carry out operations against Israeli settlers, saying that the remarks are indicative of the regime’s criminal nature.

“Such statements reflect the occupying regime’s persistence on aggravating the status quo through shedding more Palestinian blood. Latest assassinations in [the occupied West Bank cities of] Jenin and Nablus are nothing but a practical application of the regime’s racist policies,” Jasser al-Barghouti, head of Hamas' national relations office in the West Bank, said in a statement.

The Hamas official noted that the remarks corroborate that resistance is the only way to deter the Israeli occupation and protect the Palestinian nation.

Barghouthi also urged the Palestinian Authority to stop its security cooperation with Israel.

“Without such a futile policy, the enemy would not have been able to storm our cities, kill our youths, demolish our homes and seize our land,” he said.

Israeli security minister’s calls for detaining and killing Palestinians was made during his visit to the house of a policeman, who was killed in an operation east of Tel Aviv.

Palestinians have ramped up their retaliatory attacks against Israeli forces in recent weeks, carrying out a series of operations that have killed at least 11 Israelis since March 22. Eight Palestinians have also been killed during the same period.

On March 29 night, a Palestinian man, identified as Diaa Hamarsheh, killed five people, including a security force, before being shot dead by security forces in Bnei Brak, an ultra-Orthodox suburb of the Israeli coastal city Tel Aviv.

It came two days after two Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli security forces and wounded four others in a shooting attack in the northern Israeli city of Hadera before they were shot dead.

A week earlier, a Palestinian man was fatally shot on March 22 over an alleged stabbing attack near a shopping center in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, which left four Israeli settlers dead.

Palestinians want the occupied West Bank as part of their future independent state and view al-Quds’ eastern sector as the capital of their future sovereign state.
