Gresini Ducati’s Enea Bastianini has taken an emotional maiden MotoGP victory in a dramatic Qatar Grand Prix.
Honda’s Pol Espargaro who was seeking his first MotoGP win led for much of the race but was caught up by Bastianini with 4 laps remaining and following the Italian's move to the lead Espargaro went wide and dropped to third behind KTM’s Brad Binder.
Bastianini then galloped away to the chequered flag with a time of 42 minutes 13.198 seconds, over 3 tenths ahead of Binder. Gresini’s emotional win is the first since the death of its founder Fausto Gresini due to Covid-19 last February. The series will return to action in Indonesia for the first time since 1997 on 20 March, at MotoGP's first street circuit.
