Wildfires devastated forests and homes in Chila's Araucana region on Tuesday (February 22), with firefighters battling to keep back blazes.
According to the Chilean National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) there are at least 58 active fires in the area.
Regional Director for CONAF, Julio Figueroa, said this was a number "not seen during this season and quite worrying for different communities in the region."
Fires in the Araucania have been burning for weeks now and engulfed eight homes.
"Everything was burned. All the things we had here, kitchen, beds, everything. What we had was not new but everything was burned," said local Silvia Salinas as she walked through the debris of her burned home.
CONAF officials said fire devastation will likely increase with ten to 12 additional fires registered daily.
